MEET STELLA

For most of my life, I never imagined I would call myself an artist.

I grew up in an Italian immigrant family where hard work, responsibility, and sacrifice were valued above all else. Creativity was not discouraged, but it was never viewed as a path in life. From an early age, I learned that my role was to contribute, help, and consider the needs of the family as a top priority

Yet even as a child, I was drawn to creating.

Whether designing jewelry or experimenting with materials, I found myself continually searching for ways to transform ordinary objects into something beautiful and meaningful. While academics never came naturally to me, making things with my hands always did.

Life moved quickly. At nineteen, I married, built a business, and raised a family. For decades, creativity found its way into the edges of my life, but I quietly accepted the belief that art could never be more than a passion. Real life demanded something more practical, and art belonged on the sidelines, not at its center. 

Then life reminded me how precious time truly is.

A battle with breast cancer at the age of forty became a turning point. During a season of reflection, I realized that creating was not simply something I enjoyed—it was something I needed. It was how I processed the world, found purpose, and expressed who I was.

Over the years, that creative journey led to international design awards, recognition from Swarovski Crystallized Elements competitions, and even the honour of having a handcrafted beaded tribute bouquet accepted for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I was recognized as an artist!

Yet the greatest reward was never recognition. It was the act of creating itself.

When my husband became seriously ill in 2017, and I assumed the role of caregiver, creativity once again became a lifeline. It offered a sense of balance, restoration, and self-expression during some of life's most challenging seasons.

Luminesa emerged from that journey.

Drawing on more than four decades of design experience, I became captivated by the idea that the simplest natural materials could be transformed into something entirely new. By bringing together the raw simplicity of concrete, the brilliance of crystal, and the warmth of candlelight, I set out to create sculptural works unlike anything I had seen before. That vision became the Candlescape—a form of illuminated art that explores the harmony between strength and softness, permanence and transformation.

What moves me most is knowing that a creation born in my studio, created by my hands, becomes part of someone else's space. A candlescape may sit where families gather, conversations unfold, celebrations occur, and memories are made.

In many ways, every work becomes a quiet connection.  A reminder that art belongs not only in galleries, but in the homes where life unfolds.
